He trained from the age of eight at the Patricia Hammond School of Dramatic Art and took further training at the London Studio Centre. Pateman appeared in the BBC daytime soap ''Doctors'', and the musical ''Boyband'' at the Gielgud Theatre in London's West End. He was later in a rock/pop/electro band called Jean, and a member of Madhen Productions.〔(Madhen.net )〕
